Germination niche of a neotropical dry forest species: seed osmotic stress and recovery

Abstract: Erythrina velutina Willd is a native Fabaceae with wide occurrence, mainly in the Caatinga Domain multiple uses. This study aimed to compare vulnerability/tolerance of seeds four accessions E. osmotic stresses. Four replications were conducted 25 seeds, germinated solutions NaCl or PEG up -1.73 MPa. Seeds that did not germinate after 14 days recovered distilled water. Obtained data fitted Boltzmann curves and t50 synchrony evaluated. A probit analysis was performed, hydrotime halotime models constructed. In water, germination curve similar for all accessions. When concentration salt substrate increased, differentiated into two groups. Two - Jutaí 2012 2015 maintained high -0.86 MPa NaCl, while Caboclo 2008 Caiçara 2011 presented lower speed. The analyses separated response according their physiological quality tolerance saline conditions. viability at both stresses, since reestablished thus constituting crucial this species’ survival conservation.
